Hi, haven't been on the HF bands in probably over 15 years. This weekend I decided to pull out my Yaesu FT-900 and throw up a makeshift 40 meter dipole. I cut the dipole to about 33 feet on each side and fed it with 50 ohm coax. It is resonant a little low for 40 meters. It is only about 15 feet in the air and in back of the house about 15 feet away. I fired up the rig and hit the automatic antenna tuner. Within a few seconds it had brought the SWR at the rig pretty close to 1. However, I noticed that it also caused my Samsung HD TV a few feet away to turn on. Additionally, the alarm system in the house starting beeping. I think the beeping may be coming from the fire sensors. It also happens when I transmit a little CW at just a few watts. Is this what we are up against with all these electronic devices in our houses? Or based on experience, is there something I am doing incorrect? An HF station in this house may not be in the cards for me. Please help. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
